Living with a Somali.

Sharing you home with a Somali - or several Somalis - is anything but boring. Not everyone can live with a Somali - but if you like a cat best described as "mercury", the Somali is a very good choice for you. In a Somali, you get a cat who helps you with all your chores, from brushing your teeth to making your bed. A Somali is an active cat, who likes the company of another cat - not neccesarily a Somali, but a cat with a similar level of energy. The Somali is very 'human oriented' and loves to be carried or to ride on your shoulder/imitate a fur-boa. Cuddles should be an often recurring activity, and even if you might not have the time, the Somali will convince you - there is certainly no time to wait, it is cuddling time NOW!!

The Somali is a semilonghaired cat with a silky-soft coat and a bushy tail. The coat does not require much grooming, but many Somalis love to be brushed - and the fur you catch in the brush will not be on the furniture! The fur is ticked, meaning that each single hair is banded. This gives a beautiful 'play of colours' in the fur.

A Somali is a very mild and loving cat - dressed as a wild animal. Many comments from those who see a Somali for the first time are: "Look, a fox" or "it looks like a squirrel". (It's the tail - and for the ruddy Somali, the colour.)

Somalis come in eight different colours: ruddy (SOM n),which is a warm red brown ticked with black. Sorrel (SOM o): bright copper ticked with cinnamon. Blue (SOM a): warm blue-grey ticked with steel grey, and fawn (SOM p): warm cream ticked with dark beige. The silver colours are: Blacksilver(SOM ns): white ticked with black, sorrelsilver (SOM os): white ticked with cinnamon, bluesilver (SOM as): white ticked with steel grey, and fawnsilver (SOM ps): white ticked with dark beige.
